Lahore court moved to book CM Maryam Nawaz for wearing a police uniform

A lawyer has petitioned the Sessions Court to register a charge against Maryam Nawaz, the chief minister of Punjab, for donning the Punjab police uniform at a function.

The chief minister donned a police outfit and participated in the police passing-out parade in Lahore earlier in the day. Upon her arrival, she was greeted with a guard of honour and thereafter gave medals to the Police Training College’s best graduates.

Syed Waqar Ali Shah, a high court counsel, filed the case, claiming that since Maryam Nawaz is neither a government employee nor a member of the provincial police, she lacks the right to wear the police uniform.

Shah has submitted a petition for the filing of a criminal complaint against Maryam Nawaz under sections 22-A and B of the CR.P.C.

The Old Anarkali Police Station SHO is now a respondent in the case as a result of the petition.
