With effect from May 8, the Pakistani government has increased the cost of expedited passport applications once more.

The cost increase coincides with a delay in passport approval. The lack of lamination paper was the cause of the delayed passport issuing. The waiting period is now months long. Even with income generation, the department had trouble reducing its backlog. There are currently thousands of waiting passport applications, and passports are only granted to those who can afford the fast-track and urgent payments.
