Widespread flooding on Balochistan’s southwest coast forced residents to flee their flooded houses, collapsed roads, and shut down important services like schools.

The devastating rainfall forced provincial authorities to declare an official state of emergency in Gwadar, Ormara, and other regions.

The biggest rainstorm to hit Gwadar and other Balochistan districts since 2010 occurred as a result of a cyclone. In one day, the coastal district had more than 100 millimeters of rain. However, no casualties were reported so far from any rain-hit areas.

In addition to causing mayhem in Gwadar and the Kech area, the deluge also stopped traffic on the Coastal Highway and disrupted daily life.

Paramilitary personnel have been requested to assist the district government with relief and rescue efforts in the meantime.

Initiating rescue and relief activities, Gwadar Deputy Commissioner Aurangzeb Badini visited the devastated regions alongside other authorities.

A westerly wave is scheduled to arrive in Balochistan on February 26 and hit the country’s higher regions, as forecasted by the Meteorological Office before.
