An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad granted Ali Wazir’s request for bail, allowing him to be released from Adiala Jail on Monday. Ali Wazir is a former independent MNA from the tribal areas.

However, the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) later asserted that its leader had been detained once again shortly after being released on the court’s directive. However, the jail staff claimed that they had already released the former MNA and that he had not since been detained.

In connection with an alleged fraud case reported to the Barakahu police station, Mr. Wazir had been detained on a 14-day judicial remand.

After hearing the former MNA’s bail request on Monday, ATC judge Abul Hasnat Mohammad Zulqarnain ordered his release in exchange for a Rs20,000 surety bond.

Later, Idrees Pashteen, a PTM activist, claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that Mr. Wazir had been re-arrested outside of Adiala Jail.
