On Thursday, Asif Ali Zardari announced his resignation as Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP) president.

He has communicated the decision to the Pakistani Election Commission (ECP). Since he is now the president of Pakistan, he must step down from the position.

Asif Ali Zardari was elected as Pakistan’s 14th president in March, making history as the country’s sole civilian president twice.

Zardari, who is also the co-chair of the Pakistan Peoples Party, was the joint candidate of the PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which forms the ruling coalition.

In the National Assembly and Senate, the 68-year-old lawmaker garnered 255 votes, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai, his opponent, received 119 votes.
