Tanweer Ahmed, an American-Pakistani business magnate, has given $9 million to the National University of Science & Technology (NUST) in Islamabad to support scholarships that allow underprivileged students to attend top-notch universities.

Tanweer Ahmed and the university have partnered to establish an endowment fund for underprivileged students, which would enable roughly 200 students to receive scholarships annually, according to NUST. One of the biggest gifts ever made to a Pakistani institution by an outside Pakistani is $9 million.

In an interview, Tanweer Ahmed stated that he intended to take the initiative to NUST, where the donation programme will be ongoing, as well as to other campuses. He said that the scholarship initiative would be formally launched next month at a ceremony to be attended by Pakistan’s senior leadership at NUST Islamabad.

“The deserving students would get scholarships annually through the Higher Education Commission (HEC),” stated the businessman from Houston. The scholarship application process will be entirely merit-based and reserved for those who cannot afford to pay for a high-quality, pricey education. In order to help brilliant and deserving Pakistani students succeed in a variety of cutting-edge fields, including artificial intelligence (AI), information technology (IT), and cutting-edge technologies, I made the decision to establish the Endowment Fund. These industries are the ones of the future, and Pakistan’s youth will be extremely beneficial.

Tanweer Ahmed is an American-Pakistani businessman, philanthropist, and investor who works with large corporations, hospitals, and nonprofits. In addition to owning the Houston Hurricanes cricket team, he is also the owner of the largest cricket complex in Houston, the Prairie View Cricket Complex. The multimillionaire billionaire owns many food chain franchises, including Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC, in addition to being the inventor of a food chain brand. In addition to owning the biggest transportation firm in California, he also has investments in the energy and pharmaceutical industries. Tanweer Ahmed is recognised for having brought more than $50 million in help to Pakistan amid the terrible floods that struck the country in 2022.

Originally from Sialkot, he came to the US as a student and worked at a restaurant to start out in a modest way. Later on, he received a promotion to manager at the same eatery. After that, he opened his own restaurant and has since founded other profitable ventures.

He claims that his own modest upbringing and firsthand understanding of Pakistani reality are what have motivated him to strive for the youth’s empowerment in his country.

“We didn’t have the opportunities that the students can have today, thirty years ago,” he stated. There weren’t many prosperous Pakistanis in the US or Europe in the 1990s, in my opinion. Thousands of people have succeeded in life today. Just one of them is me. Pakistan is now receiving all the assistance it can. More than ever, Pakistanis should be publicly displaying their charitable endeavours.

According to Tanweer Ahmed, Pakistanis living abroad owe it to their nation of birth and identity to serve it. We owe our country since Pakistan is the reason we are where we are. Our greatest contribution can be to equip our young people with contemporary knowledge and education. I’m glad to contribute to Pakistani kids reaching their aspirations in life.

Tanweer Ahmed has already contributed money to Pakistan. In a statement, NUST Rector Engineer Javed Mahmood Bukhari stated that the project will indefinitely assist thousands of bright Pakistani boys and girls in their pursuit of top-notch university education in the years to come. He has established a hospital in Sialkot.

“Mr. Tanweer Ahmed, a well-known philanthropist-businessman from Houston, USA, who is Pakistani American, has partnered with NUST to support the financially challenged students,” stated the Rector of NUST. Being the first of its sort in a Pakistani public university, this is a singular endeavour. About nine million dollars will be invested by Mr. Tanweer in the science and technology park of the university, with the intention of allocating 50% of the project’s profits to a specifically designated endowment intended to support students from low-income backgrounds. The programme has the ability to significantly affect society by changing the lives of thousands of Pakistani families.

“NUST takes pride in this transformative partnership with Tanweer Ahmed, which reflects our shared commitment to advancing educational equity while creating a positive economic impact,” Engineer Javed Mahmood Bukhari continued. The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad is one of Pakistan’s most sought-after institutions, housing over 20,000 students.
