Pakistan seeks long lasting relations with US; Shah Mehmood Qureshi

 Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi has stated that Pakistan expects broad-based, long-term and lasting ties with the US to encourage economic cooperation and regional harmony.

He shared these views in a meeting with the US delegation headed by Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu also escorted her.

In the passage of the delegation-level talks, Qureshi emphasized that a regular and organized dialogue between the two countries is essential to promote mutual relations and to achieve shared regional aims.

Matters related to mutual relations, Afghanistan and regional peace also came under discussion.

FM Qureshi said both the US and Pakistan have the shared aims of views on Afghanistan. He shared the confidence that the new Afghan structure will work for harmony and stability as well as for the improvement of its people.

A authoritative and broad-based Afghan government can be a dependable partner for the international community, he claimed.

The top Pakistani diplomat clarified that the global community must “positively engage” with Afghanistan and provide humanitarian and financial funds to it.
