CCTV footage reveals that the truck dragged a bike, a security guard, and a crowded taxi several metres before coming to a stop. The truck crashed into several cars and the quarters of the security checkpoint on its way down.
The reports state that the accident occurred as a result of brake failure on a steep incline. In just over a month, there have been two similar accidents. A much more horrific accident happened in the middle of July when a truck lost control of its brakes and ran over several cars on Swan Bridge, GT Road.
The sheer force of the impact crushed other cars and threw one over the bridge and into the ravine below. Numerous people were killed and seriously hurt as a result of the incident.
People criticised the local government and authorities for failing to address traffic congestion at Swan Bridge, which was reportedly a contributing factor to the accident’s multiple fatalities.
