A few days ago Canada said it is restricting all flights from Pakistan and India for a month due to the rising wave of COVID-19 cases in that state, foreign media stated.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra stated that the ban would be in effect late Thursday; talking hours after India reported a worldwide record of over 314,000 new infections in the last 24-hours. Cargo flights from Pakistan and India will remain operational.

Health Minister Minister Patty Hajdu stated majority of the individuals who are testing positive for the coronavirus after coming to Canada by flights from India. Flights from India makes up for about one fifth of the country’s air movement.

There also an inconsistent greater number of positive cases among those arriving on flights from Pakistan, she said. “It makes sense to pause travel from that region while our scientists and researchers better understand the variants of interest,” Hajdu said. There are over one million people who reside in Canada who have Indian origin. There are 100,000 Canadians who have Pakistani descent.
