Babar Salem Swati is sworn in as KP Assembly Speaker

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly chose Babar Saleem Khan Swati as its new speaker on Thursday.

In the provincial legislature, Swati, a member of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), received 89 votes. Babar Swati was sworn in by Mushtaq Ghani.

Ihsanullah Mian Khail of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the opposition’s nominee for speaker, received 17 votes.

On Wednesday, the recently elected KP assembly members took the oath of office. In a boisterous session, 115 recently elected lawmakers took the oath of office.

KP Governor Ghulam Ali called the provincial assembly meeting last week on the recommendation of Syed Arshad Hussain Shah, the acting chief minister.
