Talks are on for Matchbox Shots in India to create a project on the late Sidhu Moose Wala. Matchbox Shots has obtained the rights to Jupinderjit Singh’s best-selling 2023 book, “Who Killed Moosewala?,” written by a crime journalist. The Inexorable Tale of Violence in Punjab

Before being assassinated in broad daylight on May 29, 2022, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, also known as Sidhu Moose Wala, was an Indian rapper, singer, and composer who rose to fame from a Punjabi hamlet in the mainstream music industry. He was in his 20s.

Matchbox Shots is still debating whether to proceed with a film or television series.

Variety quotes Jupinderjit Singh as saying, “Many production firms expressed interest in the novel as soon as it was published. The kind of work that Matchbox Shots is putting out really pleased me, and I’m happy that they’ve acquired the rights to the book so they may expand on it.

“We have always found the macabre relationship between the music industry and gang wars in Punjab extremely intriguing,” Matchbox Shots’ Sarita Patil continued. We are certain that Jupinderjit’s book “Who Killed Moosewala?” provides a solid foundation for our narrative.

“The story is an intricate interplay of crime, fame, and music in Punjab, a narrative that demands contemplation and understanding,” Matchbox Shots’ Dikssha Jyote Routray continued.

In May 2022, Moosewala was shot and killed in the Mansa region of Punjab. He was shot and killed by six gunmen while travelling in a vehicle with his cousin and companion to Jawaharke village in Mansa.

The Punjab police special investigation team (SIT) is looking into his killing and has filed chargesheets against 32 people, including criminals Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

Among many other successes, the singer-turned-politician was best known for songs like So High, Same Beef, The Last Ride, Just Listen, and 295.
