In observance of Labour Day, the government of Sindh has announced Wednesday, May 1, to be a public holiday.

Except for necessary services, the holiday will be observed by all offices of the Sindh government, corporations, autonomous and semi-autonomous entities, and local councils under its administrative jurisdiction.

It is anticipated that the governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, both federal and provincial, will declare May 1, 2024, as a public holiday.

It is important to note that Pakistan declared Labour Day, often called May Day, a national holiday in 1972. Pakistan has been a member of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) since gaining its independence in 1947.
