According to recent reports, the interim government of Sindh has decreed a holiday for all public and private schools, as well as colleges, on September 7 to commemorate the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).

This significant day honours the sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his 72 allies during the Battle of Karbala in 61 AH. It is observed 40 days after Ashura.

Following a decision by its steering committee, the Sindh Education Department announced the closure of all public and private schools and colleges on this day.

In many towns and cities across the nation, mourning processions are to be seen as people pay their respects to the Karbala martyrs.

In related news, the annual Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh Syed Ali Hajveri has been recognised as a holiday in Lahore by interim Punjab chief minister Mohsin Naqvi on September 7 (Thursday).

The Chief Minister announced the three-day Urs ceremony, which will start today (Tuesday), during his visit to Data Darbar.

To accommodate a large number of attendees, a communal kitchen, also known as a langar khana, is being set up. It is our responsibility to make sure that everyone attending the event has access to food, according to Naqvi.
