Academy Award-nominated actor Riz Ahmed has come forward to applaud New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern after she condemned a movie based on her highly-praised response to the Christchurch assault episode of 2019.

Taking to his Instagram Story he has posted about it, The sound of metal star showered applauses on Ardern for not letting Muslims get ‘de-centered’ in their own stories that should be dedicated exclusively to them.

“THANK YOU @jacindaardern for being on the right side of this. People are no longer gonna tolerate de-centering Muslims in their own stories,” wrote Ahmed, as he attached a blog about Ardern condemning the project.

With the name They Are Us, the US-backed film has given rise to an intense criticism among New Zealand Muslims, with community heads criticizing the project for forcing a “white saviour” plot.

Ardern stated filmmakers had not checked with her about the movie, which is all planned to take in Australia’s Rose Byrne as the centre-left lead.

“In my view, which is a personal view, it feels very soon and very raw for New Zealand,” Ardern stated

“And while there are so many stories that should be told at some point, I don’t consider mine to be one of them — they are the community´s stories, the families’ stories.”
