Re-opening of middle and primary schools can lead to another wave of Covid-19; warns Sindh health minister

Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho has suggested that re-opening schools before the pandemic is over might result in a second third wave as children can’t be stopped from socializing and nor it can be made sure that they are following SOPs all the time.

During an interview with “the news”, she said “I believe that primary and middle schools should not be opened until COVID-19 is over. Small children cannot maintain social distancing, they shake hands and hug each other frequently and cannot follow the SOPs. We have around 50 students in small classrooms and it is difficult to make sitting arrangements for them as per the SOPs. If small children are allowed to go to schools, they would spread the virus further and carry it to their homes, causing the second and third waves,”

The better option currently is that children are taught at home through online classes for their own safety until the pandemic is over.
