No Additional Weekly Holiday for Schools in Lahore Despite the Unbreathable Smog

Once more, the interim Punjabi administration has chosen against announcing Wednesday as a school vacation.

Previously, a plan to close markets and schools on Wednesday was being discussed. Nevertheless, the plan was turned down after rain caused the Air Quality Index (AQI) to improve.

There have already been requests for schools to observe a midweek vacation owing to the persistent pollution problem in the provincial capital. Bilal Afzal, the acting minister for planning and the environment, has once again ruled out the likelihood of this happening for the time being.

When the Punjab Cabinet Committee convened a second time to discuss this matter, not a single member supported an additional day off. The committee stated that the government was implementing stringent steps to reduce air pollution.

Over 7,000 cars have been punished, and hundreds of smoke-filled vehicles have been seized, according to the City Traffic Police (CTO).

Lahore remains at the top of the list of the most polluted cities in the world, with the AQI recently measuring at a “hazardous” level of 510. The Mall Road, the Polo Ground in Cantt, and the Lahore American School neighborhood were found to be the most polluted regions in the provincial capital.
