Mostly students in Pakistan are unclear about opting a career

Recently a survey namely “student expectation survey” was conducted by Gallup Pakistan. The purpose of the survey was determined how and why the hopes and dreams of students change during their undergraduate program by knowing about their aspirations and behaviors during the first year of the program.

It was carried out between 14th and 21st of September. The total number of students who participated was 1014.

Can mostly students in Pakistan afford University education?

Upon inquiring it was revealed that 83% of the student body considered that university education in Pakistan is not affordable. Whereas the 17% from the lot considered it affordable for majority students.

What students think of Higher education system of Pakistan?

  • 35%—average
  • 15%—below average
  • 29%—above average
  • 15%—one of the best in the world
  • 5%—the best in the world

From where do most students seek career counseling from?

  • 60% from parents and relative
  • 55% from university teachers
  • 48% from friends or seniors
  • 45% from classmates
  • 45% from campus visits

The results show that majority of the students are not receiving career counseling from a proper source that can help them the untie the knots of confusions in their head.

There should be a proper system of career counseling in Pakistan so that the students enter their undergrad life with a clear head and broader vision.
