Matric Exam Mode is Being Changed by Punjab Educational Boards

The Punjabi educational boards have made a significant move toward raising student proficiency in English and aligning curriculum with international standards.

Details indicate that beginning in 2025, matriculation examinations in English for both the scientific and arts streams will be administered by all school boards in the province.

The progressive withdrawal of Urdu from question papers would provide a consistent linguistic medium across all disciplines as part of this goal. Additionally, starting in 2026, English will be the medium of instruction for all optional topics on FA examinations.

Although this policy has not yet received formal approval, educational authorities are optimistic that it will be adopted at the next Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.

However, Rana Liaqat Ali, the general secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, has voiced his worries about possible difficulties brought on by the linguistic change.

In order to facilitate a seamless transition, he also emphasized the significance of preparing instructors and reducing the likelihood that students may fail because of linguistic issues.
