More than 100 peacocks have been found dead, while masses of others have been ill as a result of coming in contact with a “mysterious disease” in Tharparkar,  as it has been reported today.

It took not more than a week that over 100 peacocks have been found to be dead in more than 10 villages of Mithi, Islamkot, and Diplo tehsils in Tharparkar, sources stated, further mentioning that more than two dozen peacocks are at this time going thought the distress of the disease.

The peacocks have a disease called ‘Rani Khait’, mentioned by an authorized member from the poultry department.

“Peacocks are wild birds that do not have proper vaccination,” stated one local.

They have been provided with multivitamins and antibiotics so that the extent of the disease could at least be lessened, he said.

Based on the info from the Wildlife Department, they are currently not able to find out what was the reason behind the birds becoming sick in spite of the passage of quite a few days.

They mentioned that the peacocks have enlarged necks, whereas the Wildlife department doubts that majority of them have expired due to malnutrition.
