When 700 rare Sawa fish, valued at almost Rs 2 billion, were inadvertently captured by Karachi fishermen near Keti Bandar, fortune was on their side.

Millions of rupees’ worth of extremely uncommon and costly “Sawa” fish have been caught in the nets of fishermen near Keti Bandar.

The Coastal Media Center’s spokesperson, Kamal Shah, reports that yesterday saw a significant capture of “Sawa” fish in the nets.

He said that three boats’ nets included seven hundred Sawa fish.

On the other hand, Sawa fish congregate in March and April to lay eggs, according to Majid Khan, the WWF’s technical advisor.

He said that widespread hunting poses a threat to the Sawa fish’s extinction.
