Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the chief minister of Punjab, recently announced the release of 155 inmates around the state and reduced their sentences by three months. Speaking to female prisoners at Kot Lakhpat Jail during an Iftar gathering, she acknowledged that their release was made possible by their cooperation with benefactors and a Rs150 million Diyat payment.

She also revealed her intentions to soon provide video call services in all Punjabi prisons. Looking back on her own time behind bars, she talked about the difficulties she had, such as finding it difficult to communicate with her family. She emphasized the value of having patience and perseverance in trying times, despite the challenges.

Maryam Nawaz agreed that although some inmates may have committed crimes, others may have been imprisoned as a result of unjust circumstances or defects in the legal system. She declared her unwavering dedication to improving the living circumstances of inmates, providing better meals and basic facilities, and providing chances for skill development to aid in their reintegration into society.
