Junaid Safdar – son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Captain (retd) Safdar – has announced his engagement for the second time.
According to sources, Junaid Safdar’s engagement has been agreed with the daughter of Usman Javed, son of Mian Javed Shafi — a prominent industrialist and long-time confidante of Nawaz Sharif.
The engagement ceremony took place at the family residence in Lahore’s Model Town on Wednesday, attended by members of both families including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Mian Javed Shafi.
Mian Javed Shafi, a close relative of the Sharif family, co-runs Ittefaq Group Industries alongside members of the wider Sharif clan, including the sons of Mian Tariq Shafi.
This marks Junaid Safdar’s second engagement. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif Khan, the daughter of Qatar-based industrialist and former NAB chairman Saif-ur-Rehman Khan. The couple tied the knot in London in 2021 during Nawaz Sharif’s exile. Their wedding at The Lanesborough hotel in Knightsbridge had drawn considerable attention. However, the couple parted ways amicably in October 2023, with Junaid confirming the divorce via social media.
Later that year, Junaid relocated to Pakistan on a full-time basis to assist his mother in her political responsibilities following her appointment as Punjab Chief Minister.
Junaid Safdar, known for his academic achievements and passion for polo, holds two Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees from UK universities. He graduated with First Class Honours in Politics from Durham University and later obtained a degree from the University of Cambridge in 2022. He completed his Master’s in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020, followed by another Master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL).
He has represented British universities in international polo competitions and is regarded as one of the most academically accomplished members of the Sharif family.
