Preparations for Pakistan’s upcoming federal budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 are in full swing, with Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal confirming that the budget will be presented on June 10.
Speaking informally with the media on Thursday, Bosal stated that while the date for the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) meeting has not been finalised, and the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting date may still be subject to change, the budget schedule itself is firming up.
However, later, the adviser to the finance minister, Khurram Schehzad, posted on his official X account that the federal budget would be announced on June 10. “As communicated earlier, the upcoming Federal Budget FY26 is on schedule to be announced on June 10, 2025. Similarly, the upcoming Pakistan Economic Survey FY25 is scheduled to be announced on June 9, 2025.”
He further revealed that virtual talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are resuming today as both sides work toward aligning budgetary policies with Pakistan’s economic reform commitments.
“In the upcoming discussions with the IMF, we will focus on measures to provide relief to the salaried class and promote growth in the industrial sector,” said Bosal.
He added that the government is finalizing the new budget in close consultation with the IMF, and that discussions will also revolve around fiscal targets and potential policy adjustments to ensure sustainable economic progress.
Earlier, it was reported that the federal government was considering the possibility of further extending the date for presenting the federal budget.
Currently, the budget presentation was scheduled for June 10. However, with June 7 and 8 declared official holidays for Eidul Adha, government sources said it would be necessary to declare June 9 — the third day of Eid — a working day to meet the timeline.
The economic survey was also slated for release on June 9. At the same time, the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, which brings together the chief ministers of the four provinces and Gilgit-Baltistan, and the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, is scheduled to take place on the same day.
Sources indicated that holding both the NEC meeting and the economic survey release on June 9 would be difficult. Traditionally, a two-day interval is maintained between the NEC meeting and the budget presentation to allow for finalisation of the development programme.
