Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday held a high-level meeting with his Afghan counterpart Sirajuddin Haqqani in Kabul where both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism and border management.

The Pakistani delegation, which included Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha and other senior officials, was on a day-long official visit to the Afghan capital.

The meeting was described by officials as “important and timely” amid growing security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

According to an official statement, the two sides held in-depth discussions on key issues, including bilateral relations, the threat posed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), narcotics control, cross-border movement regulation, and effective management of the Pak-Afghan frontier.

Mr Naqvi underscored the importance of mutual cooperation to eradicate terrorism, stating that “terrorist organisations are spreading chaos and instability in the region, which both countries must counter through joint efforts.”

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining brotherly and long-standing ties with Afghanistan, reminding the Afghan leadership that Pakistan had hosted millions of Afghan refugees for decades without conditions.

“Our doors remain open for Afghan citizens seeking legal entry,” he added.

The Afghan interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani expressed willingness to enhance bilateral cooperation and acknowledged the shared responsibility of ensuring peace and security on both sides of the border.

Both ministers agreed to deepen collaboration on intelligence sharing, joint border monitoring, and ensuring that Afghan soil is not used for activities detrimental to Pakistan’s security—particularly in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which have witnessed a surge in terrorist attacks.

The meeting also touched on the ongoing repatriation process of Afghan nationals residing illegally in Pakistan. Pakistani officials emphasised the need for structured cooperation to ensure the process is carried out in a dignified and coordinated manner.
